Nota biográfica

Pedro Miguel Amakasu Raposo de Medeiros Carvalho é Professor Titular de História Económica e Estudos Económicos Africanos na Universidade de Kansai, Osaka, desde 1 de Abril de 2018. É doutorado em Economia pela Universidade de Okayama e Estudos Políticos pela Universidade de Nanzan, ambas no Japão. Anteriormente, ensinou Economia de Desenvolvimento na Escola Superior de Economia e Gestão de Lisboa (ISEG/ULisboa) e participou na Coordenação de Doutoramento em Estudos de Desenvolvimento (DS) no ISEG/ULisboa, em conjunto com a Universidade de Lisboa. Coordenou também o Curso de Relações Internacionais na Universidade Lusíada de Luanda, Angola. É Co-Fundador da Sociedade Japonesa de Estudos Afrasianos (JSAS) criada em 2019 e editor de revistas da mesma organização. A sua linha de investigação é sobre relações internacionais, economia, desenvolvimento e cooperação internacional, com foco em África. As suas publicações mais recentes incluem a Foreign Aid to Africa do Japão: Angola e Moçambique No âmbito do Processo TICAD (Routledge, 2013), a Política Japonesa de Ajuda Externa em África: Evaluating the TICAD Process (2014), e co-editou o Routledge Handbook on Africaa-Asia Relations (Routledge, 2017). Tem um próximo livro (co-editado) intitulado The Belt and Road Initiative in Asia, Africa, and Europe (Routledge, 2022).

Short Biography

Pedro Miguel Amakasu Raposo de Medeiros Carvalho, is full Professor of Economic History and African Economic Studies at Kansai University, Osaka since April 1st, 2018. He is PhD in Economics from Okayama University and Policy Studies from Nanzan University, both in Japan. Previously, he has taught Development Economics at Lisbon School of Economics and Management (ISEG/ULisboa) and teamed the PhD coordination in Development Studies (DS) at ISEG/ULisboa jointly lectured with University of Lisbon. He also coordinated the International Relations Course at University Lusíada of Luanda, Angola. He is Co-Founder of the Japan Society for Afrasian Studies (JSAS) established in 2019 and Journal Editor of the same organization. His research line is on international relations, economy, development, and international cooperation with focus on Africa. His most recent publications include Japan’s Foreign Aid to Africa: Angola and Mozambique Within the TICAD Process (Routledge, 2013), Japan’s Foreign Aid Policy in Africa: Evaluating the TICAD Process (2014), and he co-edited Routledge Handbook on Africa-Asia Relations (Routledge, 2017). He has a forthcoming book (co-edited) entitled The Belt and Road Initiative in Asia, Africa, and Europe (Routledge, 2022).
