Germano Almeida

Germano Almeida, born in 1945 on Boavista Island, is a Capeverdian writer, journalist and advocate. He was awarded a degree in law by the University of Lisbon and now lives and practices advocacy in Mindelo, São Vicente Island. An important figure of Capeverdian culture, he was one of the founders of the magazine “Ponto & Vírgula” (with Leão Lopes and Rui Figueiredo), newspaper “Aguaviva” and the publishing house Ilhéu Editora. He collaborates as well with the Portuguese newspaper “Público”. His work is translated into several foreign languages. By now he published O Dia das Calças Roladas (The Day of Rolled Up Pants,1982), O Meu Poeta (My Poet,1989), O Testamento do Sr. Napumoceno da Silva Araújo (The Last Will of Mr. Napomuceno da Silva Araújo, 1991), Estórias de Dentro de Casa (Stories From the Inside of Home,1996), A Morte do Meu Poeta (The Death of My Poet, 1998), A Família Trago (The Trago Family,1998), Estórias Contadas (Told Stories,1998), Dona Pura e os Camaradas de Abril (Mrs. Pure and the Comrades of April,1999), As Memórias de um Espírito (The Memories of a Spirit, 2001), Cabo Verde - Viagem pela História das Ilhas (Cape Verde – The Journey Through the History of Islands, 2003), O Mar na Lajinha (The Sea in Lajinha, 2004), Eva (2006), A Morte do Ouvidor (The Death of the Listener, 2010) and the most recent one, Do Monte-Cara Vê-se o Mundo (You Can See the World From Monte Cara, 2014). Francisco Manso's film Testamento do Senhor Napomuceno (1997) was based on Almeida's novel O Testamento do Sr. Napumoceno da Silva Araújo.
