Rafael Branco, born in 1953, is a well-known politician and writer from São Tomé. As a politician, he was Minister of Foreign Affairs (2000-2001), Minister of Public Works (2003) and Prime Minister (2008-2010). He was as well the president of the Movement for the Liberation of São Tomé and Principe – Social Democratic Party. His work contains of two books: Makuta: Antigamente Lá Na Roça (Makuta: Long Time Ago on the Plantation, 2004) and Lévélengué: As Gravanas de Gabriela (Lévélengué: Gabriela's Dry Seasons, 2006). Lévélengué won the honorable mention of Sonangol Prize in Literature 2005.
