Memory of Africa and East


The project was born in late 1996 and has being developed with the same core team. It consists in a online platform in Portuguese – – with free acess to:

  • a reference database of edition on PALOP [Portuguese-speaking African countries], Goa, Timor-Leste and their exact location;
  • a set of digitized publications – The Digital Memory – with a technology that allows to see page by page;
  • a directory of people and institutions that have the collections.

It currently contains registrations collected in institutions and particular collections in Portugal (Lisbon, Aveiro, Évora, Oporto and Coimbra), Mozambique, Cape Verde, Goa, Guinea-Bissau, São Tome e Príncipe and Timor-Leste.

Until February, the project has 223.945 registrations, and 288.851 visitations, with 1.341.655 page views, during last year.
